Rasasvada is a brand new label from esteemed London DJ and producer Maia Lee. It kicks off with a fine three track EP that showcases her deep and sultry style.
Born Sophie Lee, this DJ has spent the last eight years honing her craft and picking up residencies at parties from the west to the east ends of London as well as parties in Ibiza and Dubai. Her broad and well informed style is couched in house music but takes cues from funk, soul and deeper pockets of the musical spectrum. As a producer who has graduated from Point Blank, her first foray into beat making is an impressive one that already exudes warmth and very real atmosphere.
All three cuts here are heads down, intimate back room affairs for those who like slow release tunes and lasting pleasures rather than instant gratification. Opener 4am is just that – a zoned out and subtly trippy number with round knocking kick drums, swirling pads and ad lib vocal sounds that add real steaminess.
Livl Helper rocks back on forth on its heels, with clacking hits and buried deep kicks massaging your body into an irresistible groove that comes sprinkled with tumbling sine waves and wonky sub bass, freaky vocal murmurs and masterfully economical percussion.
Last of all, Knowing is another soft edged, dubbed out minimal house number with exquisitely designed and hollowed out hits. Warm chords add breadth and depth, icy hi hats ringlets bring a sense of airness and the whole thing is a perfectly up close and personal affair that will get right into your mind, body and soul.
This is an impressive inaugural EP from an artist who is sure to blow up in 2017.
